Jobs Bristol
Although it cannot compete with London in
terms of the size of its financial sector, Bristol still boasts
of an impressive area of finance with many offices for
corporate and personal finance to be found in this coastal
city. It has been this way since its trading and shipping days
when Bristol was one of the country’s major economic
players.
Some of the larger companies in Bristol that
are in the finance sector include:
In personal finance, you may be hired as an
accountant or a personal financial advisor. You will be helping
individuals and families to balance their in and out goings,
reviewing any tax they pay, VAT, National Insurance and the
like. You may also help people to find suitable loans or
mortgages.
Corporate finance is used to describe the
workings of financial managers who find the money that
businesses will use to produce goods or sell their services.
Funding a business in the long term is done through ownership
equity and long term credit in the form of bonds. If extra
funds are needed in the short term, a financial manager may use
loans from banks. The financial manager of a company will be
responsible for any credit policies that their employer
follows, including chasing payments and approving credit for
customers. Hey may also have some authority over stock levels,
cash transactions and asset insurance. This is especially
important in case of theft and damage.
To get into a role in finance, you will need
to have a related qualification, many of which can only be
gained through a university degree, although there are also
ways to get into finance without going to university. If you
studied in the UK, you need something like a MSc in Business,
Economics, Accountancy, Finance or Trade and Investment. Or you
can take a qualification to become a chartered accountant.
Salaries for jobs in finance range
massively, and you can easily add to your annual salary with
bonuses and pensions. Managerial and senior roles in finance
can earn you a six figure salary, with many working in
corporate finance earning on average £50,000-£75,000. The basic
starting salary is way above average for a graduate starting
salary at £35,500 as opposed to £23,500. Salaries also tend to
jump above average the further south you travel.
Corporate finance is possibly the most
attractive area to work in, in Bristol as it is home to some
massive companies and also has a solid small business sector
which relies on financial advisors to keep their figures up to
date and win them credit. However do not limit yourself. The
suburban and city centre population tops 900,000, with a large
number of these people hiring accountants, mortgage brokers,
tax advisors and other financial advisors for their personal
needs.
